It gives excellent control of bulb mites in crops such as lilliums and helps to control thrips by attacking thrips pupae in the soil.

Hypoaspis ( Geolaelaps ) aculeifer Canestrini (Mesostigmata: Laelapidae) is a good candidate representing the Gamasida as they do not overkill their prey nor exhibit cannibalism, unless during extreme starvation ( Usher and Davis, 1983 ), and the species is easily cultured ( Schlosser and Riepert, 1992 ).

The distribution in this summary table is based on all the information available. Hypoaspis (Stratiolaelaps scimitus, formerly Hypoaspis miles) are robust soil- dwelling predatory mites that feed on a wide range of soft-bodied organisms. They are particularly useful predators of the egg and larval stages of fungus gnats and shore flies.

Abstract. In biological control programmes, the two predatory soil mites Hypoaspis aculeifer and H. miles are often applied against soil-borne pests like mushroom flies, springtails and mites. Although the mites show high consumption rates on varying prey types in Petri dish experiments and in greenhouses, their overall efficiency is sometimes limited.

Until about 2005 1 ,2 these species were sold as either Hypoaspis miles or aculeifer. However, following a review of the taxonomy of these mites, the genus Hypoaspis was deemed incorrect for these mite species. Few toxicity data exist in the literature on the toxicity of chemicals to the predatory mite Hypoaspis aculeifer, but no information is available on its avoidance response. To assess the relevance of the avoidance behavior of H. aculeifer and the relative sensitivity of the mite in comparison with other invertebrates, avoidance and reproduction tests were conducted with 7 chemicals using With Hypoaspis aculeifer, Hypoaspis miles and Macrocheles robustulus, Koppert now offers a full range of natural enemies of soil infestations with even better quality thanks to the cardboard cylinder packaging. New name Because of new taxonomic insights, the Latin names of the two Entomite products will be changed in the near future.

Koppert Entomite M is a unique product that's specially designed to help control sciarid flies, particularly smaller larvae. The Stratiolaelaps scimitus (or formerly known as Hypoaspis miles), a type of predatory mite, specifically targets eggs, larvae and pupae or Sciarid flies but is also effective against soil-living insects like Thrips pupae, Nematodes, Collembola and Duponchelia fovealis
